The Challenge

Logo, website, mobile app, oh my!

I had the privilege of designing a comprehensive website and mobile app for Petals and Paws, a student-led plant, lawn, and pet-sitting business with a knowledgeable background in providing expert care for plants and animals ranging from small reptiles to goats and sheep. The website and mobile app provide a seamless user experience, making it easy for customers to navigate and access the full range of services that Petals and Paws offers.

My Role(s)

UX Designer

I created wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.

Content Writer

I created and tested written content for the website, "Petals & Paws". I finalized written copy to ensure cohesion and effective/clear communication of the site's purpose and value to users.

Who is this website & app for?

The primary audience for Petals & Paws includes individuals who are plant enthusiasts, homeowners with lawns, and pet owners. The service range, from plant care to pet-sitting, suggests a diverse customer base with varied needs related to plants and animals. The consumer persona likely spans across various demographics, including individuals of different ages, lifestyles, and possibly homeowners with a mix of indoor plants, lawns, and pets.

Users of the website and mobile app are likely seeking comprehensive services for plant care, lawn care, and pet-sitting. The emphasis on a seamless user experience and convenient online scheduling indicates an audience that values efficiency and accessibility. The emphasis on an online scheduling system and the availability of a mobile app suggests that the target audience is comfortable using technology for managing and accessing services. This persona appreciates the convenience of digital platforms for scheduling and communication.

Overall, the consumer persona for Petals & Paws appears to be a diverse group of individuals who value convenience, quality services, and have a range of needs related to plants, lawns, and pets. They are likely tech-savvy, appreciating the convenience of online platforms for managing their services.

User Research Findings

  1. Both personas made it clear I should prioritize an intuitive and easy-to-navigate interface. Implementing convenient scheduling features, quick access to information, and reminders enhance the overall efficiency of the site.
  2. Include features that provide personalized insights into plant care, such as watering schedules and aesthetic suggestions, catering to the individual needs of plant enthusiasts like Christina (Persona 1).
  3. Ensure comprehensive service details are easily accessible on the platform. Build trust through transparent information, including pricing, service descriptions, and testimonials from satisfied customers.
  4. Implement a responsive and seamless online scheduling system that allows users to book, reschedule, and manage appointments with ease, addressing the time constraints of both Christina and David.
Unexpected Findings
  1. Integrate features that allow users like David to upload and share pictures of their pets. This unexpected finding could lead to the creation of a "Pet Gallery" or a feature that celebrates users' pets, fostering a sense of connection and community among pet owners.
  2. Include a section highlighting seasonal plant trends, gardening events, or workshops happening locally. This provides unexpected value for users interested in staying updated on the latest plant-related activities in their community.

Design Process (Logo)

To start the design process, I worked on redesigning the existing logo. The owner of Petals and Paws has a fun, bright personality and I wanted the logo to reflect that and also inform the design for the rest of the site. Below you can check out the original logo (featured on the left) and my iterations of design in the slider on the right. Utimately, we both agreed that the logo on slide 5 would be the new logo for the site as it married the components of bright/fun with pets and plants.

Design Solution

Based on the information provided by the user research, the Petals & Paws homepage is designed to showcase the company's services, making it easy for users to learn about the variety of services offered. This includes plant care, lawn care, and pet-sitting. The online scheduling system is user-friendly and convenient, allowing customers to book appointments at their convenience and manage their service schedule with ease. The mobile app provides users with access to the same features as the website, including online scheduling, contact information, and directions to the business. The design of both the website and mobile app is visually appealing, with a cohesive color palette, engaging images, and intuitive navigation. I'm proud to have contributed to the success of Petals and Paws by designing a website and mobile app that truly reflects the company's commitment to quality and customer service.

This is interactive, have fun with it!
